Tips for Making Wedding B List Invites

As you start to think about the people you want to invite to your wedding, it’s inevitable that your list will be longer than your budget and venue space. Roughly 80-85% of invited guests will RSVP yes depending on your date. Having a B list of potential wedding guests is a good way to ensure that your wedding celebration is filled with friends and family. Here are some tips for building out that necessary “B list” without making guests feel like they were an afterthought.

  • Think about your B list from the start of wedding planning and know who you will invite if someone on your A list is unable to make it.
  • Have an earlier RSVP date for your A list, which should bring in your replies earlier. This will allow you to give guests on your B list plenty of time to reply and help you get your information to your catering in time.
  • Keep your B list secret. No one wants to know they were the “just in case” guest.
  • Have extra invites ready to be mailed for those on your B list so they can go out as soon as possible.
  • Think about family and friend groups. If you are inviting one work friend, consider inviting others at roughly the same time. If one person in the group gets an invitation, you need to assume the others will learn about it.
