7 Wedding Decor Tips

wedding table with flowers and place settingsIf you were marrying into the Royal Family, your decorating needs and wishes would be granted – after some negotiation on what is considered appropriate and what is not. Absent a title in your future and a large budget for decoration, we have some wedding decoration ideas that offer elegance while saving you money.

7 Wedding Decoration Ideas on a Budget

  1. Coordinate With Other Weddings – If your wedding is one of several being held in a large church on the same day, consider coordinating the decor and floral elements for that location with the other brides. Most churches have an onsite wedding advisor who may be able to help you work with the key persons in the other weddings to make the shared environment work for everyone.
  2. Tone on Tone Floral Arrangements – Whether you are planning for the ceremony alone or including the reception in your plans, tone on tone floral arrangements tend to have more visual impact than more costly, mixed floral groupings.
  3. Use One Large Decorative Element – Create a statement with one large decorative element rather than a dozen smaller and less impactful elements scattered throughout the church or hall. For example, having a working fountain in the center of the dining room may create all the atmosphere you wish or need.
  4. Focus on the Entrance – Concentrate on WOW by focusing decorative efforts at the entrance to your reception area. It will be easier to do if you visualize the room full of guests. Don’t spend money on items that only the first few guests will notice.
  5. Think Tabletop and Up – Once the room is full of guests, many decorative touches you thought you had to have won’t even be noticed. Don’t worry about decorating the skirts on the head tables, cake table, punch table or dessert tables. Most experts advise you to think tabletop and up.
  6. Keep Your Guests in Mind – If your guests don’t dance, don’t spring for an orchestra. Think trio to play background music and provide atmosphere.
  7. Take Advantage of Lighting – If your facility offers it, use the lighting that can be changed. Lighter, brighter, softer, dimmer – it can all transform the room as the activity level changes.
