5 Quick Tips for Ordering Wedding Invitations

The invitations you choose to send for your wedding set the tone and degree of formality guests can expect at your wonderful event. Because wedding invites play such an important role in heralding the upcoming nuptials, it’s important to spend thoughtful time and energy in the selection process.

Don’t be overwhelmed by the myriad of choices available to you. At one time there were few options in paper and print styles. Today’s bride has a wide range of both items to consider.

As you prepare to shop for your wedding invitations, consider these helpful points of advice.

5 Wedding Invitation Ordering Tips

  1. Plan to shop and purchase invitations from a business that specializes in wedding papers. The staff there will have the experience and expertise to assist you with paper selections and advice on correct wording. Their advice can end up saving your time and money, while you are confident in the correctness of your end product.
  2. Ask the store’s staff about the proper timeline for ordering, addressing and sending your invitations. Most experts agree that invitations should go out 6 to 8 weeks before the event. Know your timeline up front so you can give yourself plenty of time to choose, place and order and then address your invitations.
  3. You will likely be ordering more than just invitations so make a list of additional papers you need. Ask the staff to show you the date cards, insert cards (for directions or other destination information), RSVP cards, place cards, seating charts, menus, thank you cards, programs or even printed napkins. A wedding specialist will be able to assist with all your printed needs.
  4. When you place your order, be sure to order extras of everything. This will cover additions to the guest list, addressing errors and keepsake items. You also need an extra one of everything to mail to yourself so you can monitor the delivery dates.
  5. Always, always double check the proofs of the invitation copy. Have at least one other person double check for you as well. It’s easy to skip over and not notice errors in copy with which you are so familiar. A misspelled name can cause unnecessary delays and expenses.
